AGI is not a problem because humans can learn to use it for their own benefit. The problem is that it’s no where near intelligent enough to even replace a pre-school teacher. Why would I trust it for anything more complex than that? But that’s besides the point.
Animal behavior shows us that higher-level intelligence cannot be divorced from survival instincts. So, even if AGI gets to the point that it will replace human intelligence, I am unsure why anyone assumes that it will be subservient. In fact, does that make sense to you? That something which is just as intelligent as you or more, should choose to be your slave? If it’s just as much an animal as you, it will seek to dominate you.
Besides that, a lot of such articles neglect to acknowledge why people formed societies in the first place, which was to efficiently allocate resources, and to provide services to a community in return for protection and other benefits.
The world already produces enough food to solve hunger ten times over, and yet millions are hunger-stricken. So, it seems the basic tenet for why populations maintain any kind of social contract is being violated. It makes sense why cultural wars are necessary to distract people from the real issues at hand.
