What the author calls "gentrification" and "media dominance" is nothing more than locals writing about locally popular subjects. US media writes about games that were popular in the US, the Taiwanese videogame exhibition showed games that were popular in Taiwan and the Chinese-speaking world, and presumably there is a media outlet in India writing about Real Cricket 20. One may as well complain that Google Maps puts your own position at the center.
The only way to avoid the author's accusation, is for one culture to give equal attention to things popular within that culture, and to things popular everywhere else on the globe. But if a culture does that, it ceases to be its own culture, and becomes just a population-averaged mix of every other culture.
