The article might have a point in that US gaming experience is prioritized in western media. But isn't that understandable? The journalists will write for the public that has in general a specific shared history, and that just won't be the same in Vietnam as in the USA.
It also comes across as quite judgemental. For example, F2P isn't or wasn't villainized because it was suited for people without income, it gets criticized for often using gambling mechanics and ultimately costing players a lot more money than games that are available for an upfront price - regardless of in which society.
It's also just not true that the hacker culture around video games gets erased. Just in the last retro gamer (a german video gaming publication, printed) there was a big article about the scene creating cracked and shared versions of early video games, for home PCs.
I'm not sure what Bomba Patch and GTA Motovlog are exactly, but for one they might just collide with the current copyright regime (especially the GTA game, which seems to get sold standalone, so illegally copied) and they also just do not seem to have any web presence properly describing them. Then of course they don't reach a broader audience outside of their established circle, but how is that caused by intolerance and gentrification?
