- a1o 2y agoThere is a Win98 x86 retro portable new laptop available to buy in some websites. I wonder if this could work in that computer making it some nice portable typing machine - although I don't remember if the keyboard in those laptop are ok to type or not.
- cjaackie 2y agoI think they are way too small for like any comfortable typing, maybe not for very small hands perhaps.
- mossTechnician 2y agoIf you're referencing the $200 laptop I'm thinking of, it doesn't review well[0]. Personally, I would rather search out retro hardware that would be considered high-end for its time, compared to devices that brand themselves as retro but tend to use cheap components both inside and out. - shrubble 2y agoGrandView is a fantastic outlining program! I think it’s a great idea to have it installed.

- mossTechnician 2y agoThis is an interesting project but there are two sticking points for me: 1. Given the option, I would rather have NTFS access so I wouldn't have to rely on an external disk to store documents created on it, especially if I considered them particularly sensitive. 2. Are all the included programs truly freeware? I see they have been found on official sources online, but that doesn't always guarantee that the company behind them intended for them to be used as freeware.
- zokier 2y agoIn case you like these sorts of things, I think Micro Journal from last year is really neat device. Small portable linux computer with nice mechanical keyboard, and boots directly to wordgrinder, a small terminal-based word processor to offer distraction-free writing environment. These sort of things are popular diy projects, but this is one of the cleanest executions that I remember seeing. https://liliputing.com/micro-journal-rev-2-revamp-is-a-compact-word-processor-with-a-mechanical-keyboard-and-a-clamshell-design/ https://liliputing.com/micro-journal-rev-2-revamp-is-a-compa...
