SF Purity Test
- 01HNNWZ0MV43FF 2y agoI got quite a few points and I don't even live in SF! - Slept on a mattress with no frame - I had a long "Who's even gonna know?" phase - Attempted a sauna - I've been in one at a hotel that had one - Drank Soylent - It's good for conventions - Explored the quality of AI girlfriends - I tried ERP with a local Llama instance, it's not great. Total RAM hog too. - Taken Adderall to boost productivity - Prescribed Adderall, even I haven't written a "date me" doc though. When I sit down and really think what I offer in relationships, it's hard to recommend that anyone should date me lol I got a 94 / 100. I don't know if that means I'm very pure or very online.

- mcv 2y agoMatress with no frame in my early student days. More people than bedrooms ever since I got married. Saunas. Absolutely. I love a relaxing day at the sauna. One other that I forgot. And a few that I think I really should look into.
- rappatic 2y agoFor the unacquainted, this is based on the so-called Rice Purity Test: https://ricepuritytest.com/ https://ricepuritytest.com/ From the website: > The Purity Test has historically served as a segue from O-week to true college life at Rice [University]. It's a voluntary opportunity for O-week groups to bond, and for students to track the maturation of their experiences throughout college.
- mcv 2y agoIs that in any way related to the Official MIT Nerd Test from the early 90s?
- schoen 2y agoIt's funny to think how different the equivalent would have been when I came here. Probably a lot more about the web (and open source) than about AI and cryptocurrency. That was, I guess, a full generation ago now!
- jmspring 2y agoIt was a much different place in late 90s/early 2000s.
- squirrel6 2y agoBlue bottle at South Park would still be there at least :)
- schoen 2y agoGetting coffee in South Park, maybe, but not Blue Bottle itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Bottle_Coffee#History https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Bottle_Coffee#History
- tgma 2y agoReading this reminded me of how much South Bay is different from SF.
- novia 2y agoWhich things would be on the list in south bay?
- tgma 2y agoI'd say about ~40% of the things listed would not be mainstream for most tech nerds in South Bay.
- novia 2y agoRephrase: which things are not on the list which would be on the list if this was about South Bay instead of SF?
- tfehring 2y ago* Co-worked from HanaHaus * Taken a meeting at Buck's * Received a check or term sheet at Buck's * Ate at Zareen's more than 3 times in one week * Taken an Uber/Lyft from San Francisco Caltrain station to South Bay after missing your train * Complained about how Waymo doesn't go to South Bay * Reminisced about Antonio's Nut House * Googled Antonio's Nut House after hearing someone reminisce about it * Went to a Stanford talk * Went to a Stanford talk and actually understood the material * Made a LinkedIn connection from pickleball * Said "I'm gonna move to the city" because you can't pull on the peninsula But a lot of the originals still work for South Bay, even though people probably haven't done as many of them
- colordrops 2y agoI live in LA and have kids and haven't really been part of the scene and still scored 66.
- cj 2y agoI lived in SF for 10 years as a founder and moved back to NY 5 years ago. I can’t answer yes to nearly any of the questions. A reminder of how fast things and trends evolve.

- jaykoronivo 2y agoWhat is this test means?
- zappb 2y agoThe lower the score, the more you’ve assimilated into the SF scene. A score of 100 means you’re pure from SF.

- neilv 2y agoCan someone live peacefully in SF while doing none of these things?
- jitl 2y agoYes, no one is going to force you to go to burning man
- caseyy 2y ago- Unironically considered whether Feng shui is negatively affecting your productivity - Concluded that Feng shui must be negatively affecting your productivity
- brcmthrowaway 2y agoThis is the SF/Partiful networking tech scene quite different to a regular person there
- zem 2y agoagreed, I'm a programmer living in SF for over a decade, but not in the VC or AI space, and I checked 3 boxes off
- russellbeattie 2y agoI'm completely out of touch. I had no idea about 2/3 of the things on that list, let alone knew they were already stereotypical, a fad or passé.
- etc-hosts 2y agoWhat's wrong with eating at Souvla?
- cafard 2y agoe/acc? I hit four or five--the mattress and the 3+ housemates among them. But then I live on the East Coast.
