The Fledge – Building a DAO [video]
- rmason 2y agoLansing, Michigan has a rather unique asset in The Fledge. It is impossible to define in a 30 second pitch. They're hosted in an old church down by the state capitol. It is best thought of as a community hub where they teach kids how to program, feed the homeless, host groups, host cultural events (everything from a comedy club, a Midwest version of the WWE to Rap concerts). They help people start businesses from as diverse as bakeries to software and hardware companies. There's a full commercial recording studio, a commercial kitchen, several urban farms and a large greenhouse. Before COVID I was there one evening a week where our Code For America chapter met. Same night a Democrat party organizers group and a women's empowerment group met. The Fledge is pretty unique although some former volunteers are presently trying to start a Fledge in Madison, Wisconsin.
