I think each of the ideas listed: dsls, control loops, being clever, etc. They all have their place, and I wouldn't say they never work. I've had each of these work well in specific situations. But the OP does have a point, they each can introduce more trouble then they're worth. Were I to write this post, I would have titled it something more like "Systems Ideas Yo Really Should Think About Long And Hard Before Doing." But yeah, that might not be enough warning.
