I've been running Linux on my desktop since 1994. I've never actually run Windows (or DOS) as my main computer. From the first time I saw commercial Unix in 1991 I knew that was what I wanted. I have about 15 computers running Linux. The author mentions non technical people and I will happily say that I'm a computer engineer designing semiconductors. Linux may not be the right OS for billions of people out there but it works perfectly fine as a desktop for a few million.
