The Windows desktop is unusable shite, not the Linux one. OSX also fine.
My Linux desktop machine does not crash. It runs whatever I ask of it boringly reliably. So does a laptop. That's been my experience for twenty years now.
My shiny new Windows 11 work laptop locks up about twice a day. Reboots if I hold power for long enough to start running again. Gives me no indication what is going wrong. Doesn't even give a blue screen with an error message.
Bluetooth usually connects after twenty minute or so of repeat attempts. Accidentally plugging in a dock overrides mic/speaker settings to ones that don't exist in multiple places. Routinely demands reboots to update itself with no observable change in behaviour.
The Windows system isn't even stable enough to host virtualbox - that upsets the network connection.
Useless.
- bb88 2y agoWhere I've had crashes have typically been with closed source drivers, usually nvidia. Often the fix was to change out the video card for one that works.
- orev 2y agoWindows definitely has its problems, but hundreds of millions of people use it daily without these kinds of issues. You’re doing something very, very wrong if that’s truthfully your daily experience.
- feelamee 2y ago> You’re doing something very, very wrong hahha, really fun taking into account quote from article: > You're using the wrong Linux distribution
- FireBeyond 2y ago> Accidentally plugging in a dock overrides mic/speaker settings to ones that don't exist in multiple places. An issue on macOS, too. Plug my MBP into a dock and it assumes that I want the Dock's audio to be the default input and output devices.
