The author, David Brooks, is a white Republican, born into an upper middle-class family. Of course he hasn't written a line of code! He was born into a class that leaves the hard work to "others" beneath him. He doesn't get being poor, or being an immigrant, let alone a brown immigrant, and this brown immigrant wishes he would just sail away on his yacht. If David Brooks speaks for anyone, it is for the small set of overprivileged white people (both right and left) who think their good fortune entitles them to lecture everyone else on how to think, how to live. (Sheryl Sandberg also in this category, although some of her advice is objectively useful.)
