The fact of copyright is different from the term of copyright. If we changed the term to 1 year tomorrow, there would still be arrangement and transcription copyrights. I also dislike the term, but it's a separate discussion.
- mort96 2y agoI think it would be reasonable for someone to own future performances of a piece based on a transcription they made for a year, or a couple of years. I don't think it's okay for them to own it until 70 years after their death. Given that the term is what it is, it is unreasonable for transcriptions to be covered by copyright. The two things are inseparable.
