Looks good until Mallory sets up a phishing site that tricks users into installing a thing that registers itself as their “password manager” and mitms their entire life. Not saying there aren’t other reasons the OS vendors are pushing back on supplying that hook, but that’s one that is at least vaguely pro-user.
