I had no idea! That’s pretty awful.

I do not want Google to be managing my passkeys or passwords. Even if they promise to keep them device-local, I frankly don’t believe them: the temptation to make it easy for users who have lost a device or forgotten a password is too strong, and at some point they will take the plaintext, and then it is game over as far as security is concerned.
