UK teenager begins Dubai jail term for relationship with 17-year-old girl
- janandonly 2y agoI fully agree that there should be some lower bound under which all sexual activity is illicit. In fact, 18 seems rather low (because who at 18y old knows what he/she is doing?). But he is 18 and she is 1 month away from being 18 as well. I can hardly imagine what the parents problem with this relationship could be. Except maybe it’s a racist thing?
- magicalhippo 2y agoHere in Norway a fire department just spent $20k to chop one foot off their boat[1], as it was over some new limit which required significantly more stringent certification from the operators. The gov't stance was basically that there has to be a limit and if you allow for exceptions then how does one decide what's allowed and what's not. Is one inch above ok? One foot? Three feet? Since in this case there's two parties involved, I guess the law could have been written such that if one is below 18 then it's allowed if the age difference between them is less than say 6 months or something. But from what I can gather Dubai is quite strict with moral laws, so probably not something they would consider appropriate. - stephenr 2y agoYou've never heard of parents overreacting to news that their daughter has had a consensual sexual relationship with someone? I'm not sure if I envy or pity whatever kind of sheltered life you've lived.
