This doesn't seem to say much to back its comparisons. Wouldn't spending a giant amount of money create some sort of moat?

- wmf 2y agoNot if your competitors are spending the same amount (or spending vastly less to get similar results in the case of DeepSeek).
- mvdtnz 2y agoFrom what I'm reading of the industry, no not really. The laughably huge investments seem to buy OpenAI approximately a 6 month head start over open source models, which is not much.
- AnimalMuppet 2y agoDepends. If they manage to actually find a way to create an AGI, then a six month head start might be massive at that point. Until then... not so much.
- robertlagrant 2y agoWhy is this, though? Are they wasting the money? Or are their discoveries instantly disseminated to their competitors? Or are the open source models just currently sponsored by rich people?
