Elon Musk Is a National Security Risk
- richrichie 2y ago[flagged]
- talldayo 2y agoOvernight? Hardly. I'm not frothing at the mouth against Elon, but nobody here can pretend that he didn't brag about his meetings with Vladmir Putin for the past decade. Combine that with the Chinese lip service bordering on fellatio and you've got yourself a blatantly America-last politician. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Elon could have recognized how silly he was being at any point, but remained unapologetic.
- richrichie 2y agoSo Elon’s mistake was he had meetings with heads of states like every other multinational corp CEO?
- talldayo 2y agoHis mistake was treating adversaries as business partners. Yes, we should not be putting opportunists anywhere near matters of national security any more than you'd make a Gazprom executive a member of the Politbeurau.
- nixosbestos 2y agoHe's the richest man in the world, brags about ketamine use, and needs to make alt accounts to kiss his own ass on Twitter. No "butt hurt" (lol, as if) here, just genuine concern about such an insecure, pathetic person wielding the power and influence he has. Especially with Trump's deference to him. And let's get it out of the way, it ain't some bitter jealousy. I don't hurt for money. I've worked half my adult life and can retire anytime I want. I'm not 35 yet. And I have actual friends. I'm pretty damn sure I lead a considerably happier life than that sad husk. Now characterizing the criticism of him as such and blanket dimissing it... now that's juvenile. And for what it's worth, I'll absolutely concede that he's played a good game. The fact that he (via Starlink) has the importance he has is really, really something (almost as if we shouldn't have dementia patients controlling spending or something). But everything else about the man, his allegiances, he and Trump's flagrant violations of the Logan Act? Yeah, concerning. Otherwise I wouldn't give a hoot.

- peutetre 2y agoMusk supports and encourages and endorses the Chinese government. Musk is keen on criticizing many governments, domestic and foreign. Can you find for me a single criticism of the Chinese government from Musk? I'd like to see it.

- ironmagma 2y agoA billion is a big number. Add a billion of anything to your life and you have a big problem. Not laughable at all.

- adamredwoods 2y ago>> Mr. Musk’s business ventures are heavily reliant on China. He borrowed at least $1.4 billion from banks controlled by the Chinese government to help build Tesla’s Shanghai gigafactory, which was responsible for more than half of Tesla’s global deliveries in the third quarter of 2024. >> Mr. Musk’s relationship with China’s leaders could prove a problem for America’s national security given that SpaceX has a near monopoly on the United States’ rocket launches. The United States is in an intense space race with China. In a May interview, Maj. Gen. Gregory J. Gagnon, the deputy chief of space operations for intelligence at the U.S. Space Force, said that there has never been a buildup comparable to what the Chinese are attempting in space — not even during World War II — and that “an adversary arming this fast is profoundly concerning.” The last thing the United States needs is for China to potentially have an easier way of obtaining classified intelligence and national security information.
- vinni2 2y agoJust curious why this post was flagged.
- adamredwoods 2y agoAgreed, as there are many discussions on HN for people and software being security risks: https://hn.algolia.com/?q=is+a+security+risk https://hn.algolia.com/?q=is+a+security+risk
