The Library of Congress is doing a lot of work in this area that web-dwellers tend not to notice. I'd like to see them get more money and more compute to start a non-curated digital archive mission. I'm sure the five eyes intelligence community has archives of everything ever, so maybe someday they'll be able to open source the older stuff on a rolling basis.
