Elon Musk pledges "war" over H-1B visa program
- b3ing 2y agoYep the job market isn’t going to get any better.
- sidibe 2y agoThis has been very entertaining. All that good will he has tried to build up with MAGA base gone in 2 days.
- ttyprintk 2y agoThey’re used to hearing “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete [ban on some group] entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.” What’s interesting here is that this seems to have shut Trump up.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoYou just have to let them keep fighting over whose face of theirs the leopards eat first.
- peutetre 2y ago> "Take a big step back and FUCK YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend," Musk wrote. It's like Cicero reborn.
- mateo411 2y agoI suppose it could be like Cicero. I was thinking more like the Les Grossman character from Tropic Thunder. The character was played by Tom Cruise.
- ttyprintk 2y agoCatellus comes to mind. I guess some phrasing of “butt-boy” is due. https://en.m.wikisource.org/wiki/Translation:Catullus_16 https://en.m.wikisource.org/wiki/Translation:Catullus_16
- throwaway519 2y ago> branding some Republican opponents as "hateful, unrepentant racists." While not exclusive to Republicans, he's not wrong many are an5hat many more sheath racism and xenophobia under anti H1B sentiments. This used to be an ultra-left tactic of trade unions and closed shops.
- Zigurd 2y agoH1-B visa terms, in the letter of the law and regulation, are protective of US citizen jobs and wages. In practice H1-B is used to depress wages and exploit H1-B workers. Framing this as a racism issue, especially by Elon, is a cynical ploy to set the people damaged by the way H1-B is used in practice against each other.
- ttyprintk 2y agoAnother big miscalculation. Not as bad as if he said “deplorable”. But he needs to emphasize that he himself was H-1B, to communicate that it has value for whites.
- GOD_Over_Djinn 2y agoI hope it's now obvious to Trump supporters that the billionaire businessman from New York City does not care about working-class Americans. He just pays lip service to populist ideals to trick them in to voting for him, and then once he's in office, just does things that benefit him and his allies in the Ownership class. Trump does not care about you, or your family. He looks down on you, and thinks you're an idiot pleb. Just look at the comments Musk and Ramaswamy have made about how lazy and stupid Americans are, and how deficient our culture is. I know it may be shocking to some of you that a politician would just lie like that, but that's exactly what happened. The sooner you realize that you've been duped, the better.
- jarsin 2y agoAnd he does just enough to say "I tried". In the first admin there was nothing stopping them from ending h1b, but somehow it never got done. He let Jeff Sessions basically take the blame on that. I have zero doubts that there is going to be some fineprint unlimited cap for Musk and the VC's.
