Keep Putting Pressure on Microsoft
- kmoser 2y ago> What's crucial now is to keep putting pressure on Microsoft, whether that's through switching to GNU/Linux, avoiding new releases of their software, or actions as simple as moving your projects off of Microsoft GitHub. These are huge commitments, and not practical for many people. Surely there must be a simpler way to communicate clearly to Microsoft, en masse, that it is unacceptable for them to abandon Windows 10 updates. I'm surprised the article didn't mention anything like a petition or other organized effort that consumers can join.
- bediger4000 2y agoI'm always amazed that Microsoft never gets included in the "Big Tech" that needs to be reigned in and broken up. I can only assume that Microsoft donates big to certain causes, or participates in the right dark money PACs.
- grues-dinner 2y agoMicrosoft also provides a lot of software and services to governments (including, but not limited to Windows and Office). Maybe just the prospect of training an entire civil service to use LibreOffice is just that scary to the paper pushers. The only government I know, other than a few German state or local governments, that seems even a bit interested in avoiding a complete MS lock in is China, and then only fairly recently.
- hulitu 2y ago> Microsoft also provides a lot of software and services to governments ... and a lot of money to government oficials (lobby).

But if you talk about recent times, then why would you break them up? Then don't have anything as dominant as Google Search, Youtube, Android, Messenger+Instagram+WhatApp, iPhone and its ecosystem. They arent using any illegal tricks except maybe for promoting their browser - Edge, but that's small thing relatively to other companies
- bigfatkitten 2y agoYes they do. They're bundling products with M365 to squeeze competitors out of the market, same as they did with Internet Explorer and Windows in the 90s. They're using Teams to squash Slack, Entra to hammer Okta and Designer to attack Canva (admittedly with less success so far than the former two).
- amazingamazing 2y agoI find it hilarious you (apparently) unironically believe this. Microsoft has nothing as dominant? Really? You can’t think of anything?
