IRS to Seek Identities of U.S. Taxpayers Who Participated in the "Gig Economy"

- Terr_ 2y agoThat seems... Pretty normal? I mean, it falls within what the IRS has been legally tasked to do and know, the information request (demand?) has gone though the courts, and I don't see how "with a computer" makes it different than stuff that's been going on for a long time.
- metalman 2y agonormal? *normal if your hand makes it to mouth then the government grabs you by the throut and makes you cough it back up. the quiet: the persuit of happyness has been rendered impossible and illegal through taxation and other government regulation THE LOUD: DEFUND! DEFUND! DEFUND !
- Hatrix 2y agoSpend tax payer money to squeeze pennies out of thousands instead of checking the pockets of the billionaires.
- Terr_ 2y agoOne factor is that Congress has been cutting the IRS budget and staff almost every single year for the last ~14 years. (Which looks even worse when you scale it by the increasing number of taxpaying entities.) So the agency can't "afford" to take many auditing-risks going after big fish.
- cratermoon 2y agoI would support this if I thought the IRS was going to go after the companies that treat their employees as independent contractors, but that's not likely to happen for a while.
