Mapping Trump's connections to tech's right-wing brotherhood

- billy99k 2y agoThese are all highly intelligent, successful people in their own right. I wouldn't expect Biden or Harris to surround themselves with anyone but left-leaning people. Why would Trump do any different?
- Terr_ 2y ago"Everyone owns shoes, why would Imelda Marcos do any different?" Naturally one should pay a lot more attention to the "friends" of government officials when those officials are crooks with a clear history of nepotism, embezzlement, and special "favors" for those friends.
- bediger4000 2y agoHarris promised to put a Republican in her cabinet: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/kamala-harris-pledges-republican-cabinet-member-rcna168879 https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/kamala-harris... Obama retained Robert Gates, appointed by GW Bush, as secretary of defense. Your expectation is at least a little wrong.
- archagon 2y agoI don’t think the article is trying to answer “why.” (That part is obvious.) I think it’s trying to answer “who.” That is, who among the tech billionaires would happily align with a criminal, authoritarian leader for a few more points on the net worth leaderboard or a taste of political power?
- ttyprintk 2y agoArticle goes into clear differences, especially about the motivations of the next-1000 appointees.
- Apocryphon 2y agoHow long are these connections really going to last in the wake of clear coalition-fracturing wedge issues, namely the H1-B program?
- bediger4000 2y agoIf only American IT workers were paid less! If only there were many more of them! Then supply and demand would take its natural course! Maybe we could have public colleges and universities, and even community colleges, graduate a lot more CS degrees! We wouldn't need any H1-B or similar thing!
- Terr_ 2y agoExactly, any price that isn't what I want is proof that natural supply and demand system is broken, a truly collective crisis where we must all sacrifice something for my greater good. I mean, why is nobody talking about the devastating nationwide shortage of new cars? No matter where I look, I can't find any even when I offer a whole $1,000!
