How cheap storage is getting. Given the Internet Archive's legal troubles, the ability of anyone to have a (admittedly comparatively small) web archive might be important. (I think all the books have been mirrored to piracy websites by now, so it's just websites, films, audio and software that might be in danger.)
- jasmes 2y agoThe Library of Congress is doing a lot of work in this area that web-dwellers tend not to notice. I'd like to see them get more money and more compute to start a non-curated digital archive mission. I'm sure the five eyes intelligence community has archives of everything ever, so maybe someday they'll be able to open source the older stuff on a rolling basis.
