Or you could say that too much competition and fighting for mere survival corrupts people. But I don't know if the situation is as hopeless as the author describes. Maybe in a personal sense it is hopeless to change society. But there is always a larger undercurrent that we often overlook. Nature dictates that everything that is damaged beyond repair will be destroyed. And rebuilt, renewed. And in this sense: happy holidays and a happy new year!
