Generative AI still needs to prove its usefulness
- lerp-io 2y agothe more ai evolves, the cheaper and more powerful it becomes which drives cost of intelligence to zero which drives consumerism to zero driving everything to the edge and making world less centralized more slim and efficient and in sync with reality and nature which is the future i would like…more green and creative, intelligent, efficient, interesting, and beautiful
- bobxmax 2y agoYet more doomerism from the man who's mentor claimed the death of deep learning in 2017. Generative AI has proven it's usefulness. Over and over again. By the millions of programmers who now use it to do their jobs better. By the millions of white collar workers who are using ChatGPT on a daily basis to accomplish things faster. To the millions of creatives and non-creatives alike who are using (and hapily paying for) tools like Midjourney The smug criticisms of gen AI (which are also rife on this forum) are just embarassing, simply because it's "AI". If any other single wave of technology emerged that had the level of rapid adoption and scale that generative AI did, it would - rightfully - be universally declared a technological revolution. These sorts of criticisms sound about as obtuse as "the fad of computers" written in the 90s. Yes, you can question AGI and whether the current track of models is actually a path to that - but questioning the usefulness of generative AI at this point is objectively silly.
