Yes, the problem is in the human heart, but I'm not in charge of the petrochemical industry that is polluting the planet, nor am I an oppressor causing misery for the poor or folks of other ethnicities or cultures.
History has taught us enough about what other folks are capable of when their hearts are tuned against universal compassion, for me to know whom to keep a careful eye on.
> Culture, love, beauty. Things that dont really cost anything and nobody is really inhibited from enjoying as long as they are creative.
I've never read anything so absurd on HN.

- labster 2y agoThe concepts aren’t absurd, you’re just being hopelessly naïve to think that no one is inhibited from enjoying culture, love, and beauty; in a world with genocide, homophobia, and industrial-scale desertification.
- 52-6F-62 2y agoNaive, eh? Your experience is your own in this world. Your heart’s path is your own to choose, and that is where any culture and love and beauty result. I think it would be naive to say that no culture, love, and beauty came about in spite of homophobia. I can think of at least one specific LGBT community who would take a huge issue with that notion. Hell, their passion in the face of oppression is a defining aspect of their identity. One shouldn't conflate the existence of struggle with the choice of culture, love, and beauty over material concessions. We choose culture, love, and beauty in spite of struggle and despite and hardships because it’s true. This universe is much larger than any perceived struggle we can concoct. Best make our choices and align our hearts accordingly… This “tech industry” has a serious issue with putting material ambitions above all else.
