Why Playwright Is Dominating Browser Automation: A Deep Dive
- deleted 2y ago[deleted]
- cryptos 2y agoThere is really no strong argument why Selenium should be better than Cypress. The only meaningful difference is the number of supported language, as far as the article describes these frameworks.
- issac_0v0 2y agoFrom a capability perspective, they are all essentially Chromium wrappers. The advantages, as I understand, are: * Modern framework (updated language APIs, more user-friendly APIs, and better integration with popular libraries). * Multi-language wrappers (this might just be a lot of grunt work). * Multi-engine support (almost everything except IE is supported). Of course, people always like new things, and new things do tend to generate more buzz.
- issac_0v0 2y agoAdditionally, I understand that one advantage is being backed by Microsoft, which also means the framework can receive long-term support.
- andrewmcwatters 2y agoSelenium is still by far the best solution if you ask me, because all of the other solutions are explicitly first for testing. Playwright is absolutely not “dominating” this space.
- issac_0v0 2y agoYes, Selenium is excellent, but judging by its current popularity, Playwright is almost as hot in the frontend field as React.
