Ottosson's first figure (not linkable, alas?) looks suspiciously, on either branch, like a Thomian catastrophe (a cubic going from one [stable] to three [2 stable, 1 unstable] intercepts). Interesting that the Old Country shows up as heavily "task-based" trust. I wonder if it could move towards becoming a higher-trust society if enough people were convinced that living together in a civilised manner were a worthy, err, I mean profitable, background task?
