- kyrra 2y agoSamsung has an existing plant in Austin that is quite large: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xV1aQsGTSxWyMrSV8 https://maps.app.goo.gl/xV1aQsGTSxWyMrSV8 They are one of the largest consumers of water and electricity in the area and sometimes have to stop production when there are water/power issues. Also, the existing plant is on the same road as Apple's main campus in Austin (https://maps.app.goo.gl/N5fctVd5iHTwLiBP9 https://maps.app.goo.gl/N5fctVd5iHTwLiBP9 though 7.5 miles down the road), and I believe Samsung produces some of Apple's chips at this plant.
- osnium123 2y agoThey used to make Apple’s CPUs in the past. I don’t think that’s the case anymore.

- bastardoperator 2y agoWith 4.7B, maybe they'll learn how to make a product that doesn't break down in the first year.
- nine_zeros 2y agoDon't be silly. They never needed grants for making a lasting product. The grant is for shareholder metrics, not because they actually need the money.
- SahAssar 2y agoDidn't samsung fab a lot of the chips nvidia used for the crypto and AI hype? Are you conflating samsung consumer devices with samsung fabs?
