I know from first hand (though not with opiates fortunately) that addiction sucks, and discovering its root cause can be tricky. But really? Everyone is at fault, but the actual individual who bought and used it? Then why not sure Apple too? iPhones after all can be used to install Snapchat...
- herbst 2y agoThat's so American I don't even understand why this guy gets publicity.
- leobg 2y agoHow’s that American? They know their user base is mostly teens. Their USP is ephemeral messages. And then they say, sorry, can’t be responsible? Who can? The minor can’t, because he’s a minor. And the parents can’t, because the messages are ephemeral. They should be sued. Think about it. You make a startup whose whole premise is that there won’t be any paper trail. If that takes off, you know exactly why. There will be illegal stuff going on. Anyway. I don’t know if they’ll win the lawsuit or not. But to say it’s a question that shouldn’t even be asked, or that asking it was some form of “not taking responsibility for your life and of just looking for a scapegoat” seems odd to me, given the circumstances.
- herbst 2y agoThis guy thoughts it's a good idea to buy the worst drug imagineable on the internet and then take it to the point to get addicted and destroy their body. It's not their fault because they weren't an adult yet? From media it looks like you can buy fentanyl in any major American city just around the corner. Why not stop this? Why not fight the actual problem?
- impulser_ 2y agoNo, but these social media apps are becoming a very dark place for teenagers and more needs to be done or we are going to keep heading into a terrible world for teenagers. If suing them makes them take it more seriously than I think it's a good thing. Since 2020, drugs, suicide, sex crimes, abuse and almost every crime related to teenagers have skyrocketed since the pandemic as more and more teenagers spent more of their time online and on social media sites like Snap, Instagram, Discord ect. There needs to be more done by these social media apps to protect teenagers or we should probably ban them for teenagers. I don't think most people understand how bad this has gotten since 2020.
