Why do developers love clean code but hate writing documentation?

- salawat 2y agoBecause writing documentation requires you to use your code. Devs like writing code. Not reading or using "someone elses". It also requires you to look at what you've made as a critic. And actually test it non-trivially.
- magicalhippo 2y agoFor me it's that it kinda feels like solving the same problem over again. I've already done it, I'm ready to move to other things, I don't want to do it twice. It can also be harder. Writing good documentation requires thinking about the code in a different way. It can be hard to find the sentences which describes exactly what you have in your head, without being ambiguous or misleading. As such, I prefer to minimize the need for documentation through the way I write my code.
