  If we can't ever get past this divide our country will fail. You should teach your kids to respect diversity of not only ideals, beliefs, religions but also politics. If you do a good job as a parent you shouldn't need to worry about a neighbor convincing your kid to believe something else unless your argument is already flawed. I wasn't pushed in any direction as a kid by either parent (whom weren't together) towards any religion or politics.
