I do this too. I etched my name inside an LVAD that went to the Smithsonian from Jarvik Heart, where I worked at the time. Most recently I etched the signatures of each employee at a startup I worked at where I designed a surgical robot on a plate, gold plated it. It's part of each machine that goes out the door, I even gave everyone one for Christmas as a memento.
