New app lets US homebuyers see neighbors' politics

- Terr_ 2y agoBefore anybody derides this as nothing but vanity self-assortment through political identity... the real tragedy is that we are also living in an era where sometimes people ought to be checking these things. For example, a prospective buyer might not be able to fully leave a state like Texas, where bad neighbors could be self-deputized informants for the Pregnancy Gestapo, spying on your family while motivated by a desire to "punish the wicked women" and/or taking $10,000 of your money. So the politics of your immediate neighbors are no longer purely about whether you might be friends or what campaign-ads you do/don't like to see on lawns.
- johng 2y agoKind of like those on the left that were self-deputized informants reporting people for having meetings with friends outside? https://www.foxnews.com/politics/walzs-freedom-message-clashes-record-covid-school-closures-indoor-mask-mandates https://www.foxnews.com/politics/walzs-freedom-message-clash...
- Terr_ 2y agoSimilar, although it does differ in (A) no government reward and (B) the conduct could affect the reporter's safety. So I'd say that lands closer to a third scenario: Calling the local fire department because you think your neighbor's backyard bonfire is unsafe.
- throwawaysleep 2y agoI mean, would you leave your kids near a member of the other political party? I wouldn't. Would you want a school with members of the other political party deciding funding and the library?
- johng 2y agoIf we can't ever get past this divide our country will fail. You should teach your kids to respect diversity of not only ideals, beliefs, religions but also politics. If you do a good job as a parent you shouldn't need to worry about a neighbor convincing your kid to believe something else unless your argument is already flawed. I wasn't pushed in any direction as a kid by either parent (whom weren't together) towards any religion or politics.
