I think they are trying to paint self sufficiency as a masculine trait. Maybe it is but I doubt that's what drives boomers. Their parents lived through some very rough times and did not have the money to pay others to do things for them. They learned to get things done themselves, as did their children boomers. In my opinion this trait needs to return but I have no idea how short of another great depression.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoIt is identity and ego imho. It is who they are, so they cannot stop, they do not know who they are or what they would do otherwise.
- LinuxBender 2y agoIf so I think that is probably fine. Masculinity is also a trait that has been diminishing with each generation. I blame the things people are eating but it's devolved into a cultural issue driven by academia. It is not clear to me what their end-game is beyond making society more malleable and vulnerable.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoThe problem is when they drag the rest of us along for the ride in positions of power and management. They need to seek therapy, self awareness, and fortitude vs power and authority, otherwise we all get to "enjoy" the externalities of this mental model.
- rolph 2y agoself sufficent people, are not reliant on government service. hobbling the population, by making it easier or convenient to become a milksop, ensures job security for the government.
