I've shared this insight before, but Claude will faithfully reproduce the (still in copyright) Zork adventure game when prompted to do so. I don't know how far it manages to stay faithful, but it certainly reprouces enough that I can't see how that's compatible with the current legal framework around copyright.
So it's right there's a consultation to figure out how best to deal with that. It's too late to put the genie back in the bottle, I don't think it's productive to suggest that no material under copyright can train AI.
On the other hand, an LLM that could let you play through the entire of Zork, without any dues to the author, doesn't seem right either, regardless of whether you think current copyright laws are too long, and also regardless of whether it's also available through archive.org.
It's an illustrative case that shows that material, under copyright, has been ingested and can be faithfully reproduced when prompted.
