Ask HN: Alternatives for PGP
Ever since the introduction of AI and quantum computing there had been talks about having a more secure encryption or privacy protocol.
Last week, Google showcased their latest quantum processor, it seems inevitable current standards will eventually get deciphered easily.
What else is currently going on in this field maybe a new protocol, or improved forks, or how you will be handling things in this scenario?

- randompeach 2y agoSMIME will become PQC as well as GPG (as of my knowledge). SMIME will also get an ACME standard for issuing. Including a handful of CAs that will likely issue free Certificates for it.
- vednig 2y agoBut SMIME is has single point of failure which is always a bad thing, with AI advancements in reverse engineering and hacking this can be automated with sophisticated brute force to gain access to singular systems.
- LinuxBender 2y agoDoes it have to be real time delivery? If not then use any encryption and stick the content on a micro-SD, hand it off to a delivery driver. Some armored armed transport companies can also ensure nobody touches the item source to destination.
- vednig 2y agothis reminds me of an idea of using physical datapoints as encryption mechanism but you do have a valid point overall nothing is real time,if you look at it that way, there's time to download, stream or preview why not use it to ensure physical delivery
- vednig 2y agoSo there is no such thing as better encryption? right?
