Why use a monorepo build tool?
- zokier 2y agoTo me the bigger question is why aren't these polyglot/universal build tools more widely adopted and adapted? Why are we still spending so much effort in developing and working around language-specific tools that inevitably fall short? You'd think that we'd be at least closing on converging to some common standard tool, but in reality I don't really see that happening right now. I realize that something like Bazel can seem very daunting right now, but how much of that is really inevitable and how much is it just missing libraries/tools/practices? For me the most interesting aspect of these "new" build tools is not even the monorepo management or scalability, but just the convenience of having one common tool and also having more eyeballs to polish that one tool.
