The electricity cost jumps to almost 1000 EUR / MWh in Germany
- miohtama 2y agoThis will translate to the cost of host serves in Germany.
- sgt 2y agoNot sure why you were being downvoted. This is spot on, and we already had one adjustment (I believe last year) on Hetzner for electricity usage.

- Arnt 2y agoNot very likely. This is the spot price, you only pay that if you need more power than you estimated (or if you guessed that the spot price would be below the prices for long term contracts, and hoped to save money on that). Servers have predictable power needs, so needing more is unlikely.
- pfdietz 2y agoPeaks like this (or up to 5x higher) occur in Texas. It's part of a competitive grid, and is an incentive for providers to have capacity to deal with rare peaks of demand/supply imbalance. What matters to consumers is what they end up paying integrated over time. A grid with lower peaks, but higher average costs, would be worse for consumers. Such bursty price structures provide incentive for demand dispatch. This is a real use case for IoT and smart home technologies, allowing demand to respond to changes in price.
- MarkusWandel 2y agoReally interesting blurb about how electricity prices are set in North America. It may not be the same in Europe. https://practical.engineering/blog/2024/11/14/which-power-plant-does-my-electricity-come-from https://practical.engineering/blog/2024/11/14/which-power-pl...
