PowerChina receives bids for 16 GWh BESS tender with average price of $66.3/kWh
- xbmcuser 2y agoThis price makes battery + solar cheaper than coal in China. The Chinese move off coal will likely be a lot faster than most of the predictions as these prices are as of today but prices for solar and batteries are still expected to keep falling avg 10% a year for the next 5-10 years.
- blackeyeblitzar 2y agoIs it sustainable though? Financially I mean. The low bids could just be desperate undercutting as companies try to starve each other out. But they may not be able to operate at those prices for long. And then there’s the other notion of sustainability. What would it take in terms of mining and other activities to produce grid level storage capacity to replace coal entirely in China?
- xbmcuser 2y agoYes for financially as in terms of mining that what we will find out. Though looking at how new sodium and sulphur battery tech is coming up I think it will not be as big a problem.
