What makes a video "spatial"
Is it capturing depth for each pixel?
- atoav 2y agoI would have suspected such, but innthe article they only mention the stereoscopic lense. So I suspect this is for making video that targets VR glasses (especially the audio part made me think that).
- dialup_sounds 2y agoNo. "Spatial video" is just stored as two separate views instead of just squishing both images in one frame and a tiny amount of metadata about the camera. "Immersive video" is that plus 180 degree FOV and 8k.
- ninininino 2y agoYou know how for people whose eyes and brains generate depth perception for them in their real lives, the world looks 3D and you can infer an object's size and distance as you look around the world, but you don't get those same feelings of depth looking at a 2D image or video on a flat screen? A spatial video lets you experience the same depth you see looking around at the world, not a flat image on a screen.
- brcmthrowaway 2y agoWell it's true. With two views of the same object, one can triangulate distance. The math checks out.
