It isn't the reason for Guile Emacs, but there is in fact a library Emacs could quite desperately use: fibers (<https://github.com/wingo/fibers https://github.com/wingo/fibers>). The Emacs concurrency story is about as bad as you could expect from a 40+ year old application.
