Ask HN: what's your take on 99Designs?

Ok, I just finished perusing through the "why would a YC Company use 99Designs" post, and it got me wondering how everyone percieves the service they offer? Back when 99Designs came out, the idea seemed innovative but at the same time somehow abusive of Designers (without meaning any offense to the 99Design guys, who had an idea and got it going). Now after so much time has passed I'm wondering how they're perceived by both designers and those looking for them.
