Quantum Computers Cross Critical Error Threshold
- ggm 2y ago> Then there’s the matter of scaling up. To get the error rates low enough to do useful quantum computations, researchers will need to further improve their physical qubits. They’ll also need to make logical qubits out of something much larger than a distance-7 code. Finally, they’ll need to combine thousands of these logical qubits — more than a million physical qubits. So this reads as "google shows adding more physical qubits works to make a single stable logical qubit and also posits the cost in physical qubits in this design technology is a ten thousand to one ratio physical to logical. We need 100s to 1000s of logical qubits don't we, to run Shors algorithm on real world keys. So we really need billions of physical qubits to make thousands of logical qubits. There's higher layer MBTF to be added in. RSA factoring machines still look like state actor enterprises to me.
