To me, this looks like a fantastic idea, and something that could be really useful in a niche, but I think it's going to fly over the head of a lot of folk because it's fairly obviously targeted at highly mobile, maybe HNWI's who do a lot of travel - it's not going to be useful for "most" people.
- strict9 2y agoSimilar vibes to lawmakers that have public hearings with airline execs and talk about air travel issues as if it's an issue American voters frequently think about. Most Americans travel 0-2 times per year. About half don't fly at all.
- ryandrake 2y agoIt's also like the news always summarizing the stock market even though ~40% of Americans hold no stock at all, even indirectly through mutual funds or retirement accounts[1]. 1: https://news.gallup.com/poll/266807/percentage-americans-owns-stock.aspx https://news.gallup.com/poll/266807/percentage-americans-own...
- naming_the_user 2y agoEh, the news dealing with issues that affect 60% of people seems pretty reasonable to me? I also don't really think it's particularly helpful to categorise people in this way - if we were talking about an immutable characteristic, like if the news spent half of the time talking about the struggles of being 7ft tall even though basically no-one is 7ft tall, that would be a bit odd. But buying shares is a generally available thing.
- fnfjfk 2y ago16% of six-figure earners is the really shocking part here. They make 100k and don’t have a 401k or IRA? What?! How?!
- themaninthedark 2y agoI could see blue collar workers making up that segment, especially if they are self-employed. A young plumber or electrician who doesn't know the value of compounding interest.
- lotsofpulp 2y agoAll taxpayers are exposed to the stock market via taxpayer funded defined benefit pension plans and retiree healthcare plans. Stock market goes down, taxes go up (and/or quantity/quality of government services goes down). Of course, that can happen anyway due to a relatively rapid decrease in the purchasing power of the currency.

- nicwolff 2y agoIn the live-aboard sailboat cruising niche we have Sea People https://seapeopleapp.com https://seapeopleapp.com which has a similar basic value prop but many features specifically for that lifestyle.
