Long story short, the author lives peacefully and comfortably in a country defended by others and has ethical issues helping those who protect him. I don't see eye-to-eye with such people. I joined the military (the infantry) straight out of high school out of a sense of duty due to my upbringing. I knew what the job entailed but never thought about it much. It was peacetime, too, so that made not thinking about it easy. Then, the war on terror (9/11) happened, and the reality of the job blew up in my face (almost literally). It was a challenging experience to say the least, but I would do it all over again if given the chance.

Would that argument help you to see eye-to-eye?
