Ptyxis Becomes Ubuntu's Recommended Replacement to Gnome Terminal
- marssaxman 2y agoWhat was so wrong with Gnome Terminal that it needed to be replaced?
- yorwba 2y agoAs far as I can tell, the Gnome project wanted to make sure that their core apps have a unified UX design, and updating Gnome Terminal to match the other core apps would've been difficult. Meanwhile, someone had developed a terminal emulator for use in Phosh on their Linux phone, calling it "King's Cross." Apparently (maybe because it was designed for mobile use) this new terminal emulator meshed better with Gnome's UX, so it was adopted as a core app and christened Gnome Console to distinguish it from Gnome Terminal. Clearly, Ubuntu doesn't want to simply copy whatever Gnome's doing, but apparently doen't want to stay with Gnome Terminal either.
