Late reply, but basically I would end up writing myself into a corner and discover that I didn’t have a great plan to get out of it (this exposes my tendency to skip the initial planning process and just write). Those are the moments I would like to put in front of me in order to take stock of where I’ve carried the story. I think it would be helpful to drop into the story at the moment I’m stuck and take a look around. Take in the scenery. Does everything look right? What’s missing? And most importantly, what paths forward present themselves in this scene?
