A Fast, Free English-Myanmar Dictionary Built for Everyone
- Zaw_Paing 2y agoI’ve built a simple online English-Myanmar dictionary, inspired by the lack of accessible tools for my language. It’s free and open to anyone who wants to use it: imaginers.vercel.app. I made this because many people in Myanmar, including myself, face challenges finding accurate translations online. This project is my way of giving back to the community while honing my programming skills. It’s a work in progress, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on how it can be improved or how it compares to other tools you’ve used. Feedback, criticism, or just sharing your experience—it’s all welcome!
- yorwba 2y agoFirst thing I tried was to search for ကလေး, no results. Seems like this only does one direction? I guess you didn't write all the entries yourself and are instead working with an existing dataset that only supports English headwords out of the box (I'm curious where you got that data from, by the way) but I think it should be possible to parse the entries so you can reverse-search as well.
- Zaw_Paing 2y agoYeah, this is a one-direction dictionary for now. You’re right that I didn’t write all the entries myself. The data comes from an existing dataset, but I had to do a lot of work to clean, sort, and trim it. The original was pretty bloated, and I wanted the dictionary to run fast. Reverse-search is definitely possible, though. Parsing the entries to support that would make it much more useful. It’s something I’ve been thinking about, and your comment is a good reminder to prioritize it. By the way, if you’re curious about the Myanmar language—or anything related—we should definitely connect. I’d love to exchange ideas!
