- mensetmanusman 2y agoA consequence of millions of dead missing leaders in the family and in the community.
- AnimalMuppet 2y agoWorld War II ended 79 years ago. The people who were killed then would be retired or dead by now. Yeah, Italian society is less than it could have been if it had the contributions of those people. But it seems really weird to single that out as the single source of Italy's problems.
- mensetmanusman 2y agoThat’s about when slavery ended in the US and the community most effected by that is still suffering from the knock on effects of destroying the family structure equilibrium. It’s better to think in terms of number of generations versus years.
- AnimalMuppet 2y agoAll right, let's think in terms of generations. Slavery ended 160 years ago; that's something like eight generations (depending on exactly how you define it). Things that happened in the past did real damage. But sooner or later you have to stop blaming the past and start actually fixing things and getting on with life. Eight generations is past that time. I submit that four generations also is, and therefore that your blaming WWII for Italy is as misguided as blaming slavery for the US.
- mensetmanusman 2y agoIt’s all true what you say. Just pointing out that generational effects last centuries as you correctly point out, and that it is rare to get an entire culture to fix things.
