I think inequality just stems from human nature. People are unconsciously selfish, and life is unfair. We have not been forced into it by misinformation - we are, by nature, looking out for our own selfish self-interest. Sure we can and do help people out, but the default from nature is survival of the fittest, and some people just get delt a shit hand in life (where in the world they were born, luck, events outside of their control etc) It has been like this for millenia - not just since mass media has been a thing. Removing misinformation will not suddenly lead to universal global equality, it will not "break the spell". Life will still suck for a lot of people in the world if we turned Twitter off tomorrow.
